The US ED Office of Technical and Career Education (OCTAE) approved several new tests for NRS pre- and post-testing. Massachusetts will transition to new versions of these tests in FY26:
BEST Plus 2.0 will transition to BEST Plus 3.0
CLAS E Reading Forms A and B will transition to CLAS E Reading Forms C and D
CLAS E Writing Forms A and B will transition to CLAS E Writing Forms C and D
TABE 11/12 will transition to TABE 13/14
In FY25, Massachusetts will use the current versions of these tests: BEST Plus 2.0, CLAS E Reading forms A and B, CLAS E Writing forms A and B, and TABE 11/12.
There will be no changes to MAPT-CCR and TABE Literacy tests in FY25 and beyond.
Programs should closely monitor the ACLS Test Help Blog and ACLS monthly and special mailings for future communication about training and certification including training dates.
UMass CEA will provide BEST Plus 2.0 certification training in FY25. Enrollment priority for BEST Plus 2.0 trainings in FY25 will be given to those programs that have limited to no staff available to administer BEST Plus 2.0.
BEST Plus 3.0 asynchronous self-paced training from the test publisher will be available for free for a limited period of time during FY25. After this period closes, UMass CEA will provide BEST Plus 3.0 training.
UMass CEA will provide training for forms A and B of CLAS E Reading and Writing in FY25.
UMass CEA will provide training for forms C and D of CLAS E Reading and Writing in FY25 when these forms become available.
UMass CEA will provide training for TABE 11/12 in FY25.
UMass CEA will provide training for TABE 13/14 in FY25 when these forms become available.
The attached chart provides a more detailed outline of the transition.
