Educator Effectiveness

Induction and Mentoring

Induction and mentoring programs provide essential support to beginning and incoming educators as they transition into their roles. They are a fundamental component of developing and sustaining a diverse and effective educator workforce and ensuring that all students, in every school and classroom, have access to excellent educators.

During the 2024-25 school year, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is updating the Guidelines for Induction and Mentoring in collaboration with an advisory group of district and school leaders and teachers.

A draft of the updated guidelines is available for stakeholder feedback through March 14, 2025. DESE is particularly seeking feedback from educators who have participated in induction and mentoring programs as mentees or mentors and educators who coordinate and lead induction and mentoring programs in their schools or districts.
