Please take note of the following updated policy related to returned funds.
To ensure that allocated grant funds are utilized efficiently and in alignment with the fiscal year cycle (i.e., July 1 – June 30), it is critical that all adult education programs carefully monitor their spending.
You must notify your program specialist in writing (including rationale) no later than April 1 of the current fiscal year if your program anticipates that it will not fully spend down its allotted grant funds (State Requirement). This early notification is essential, as it allows the state to reallocate unused funds to other pressing needs within the adult education system.
Your cooperation ensures that resources are maximized for the benefit of all programs across the state. Failure to alert ACLS by the April 1 deadline or consistent failure to spend down funds may result in the reduction of funds for future years of the grant cycle.
This policy will be included in the addendum to the FY24-FY28 Massachusetts Policies for Effective Adult Education in Community Adult Learning Centers (CALCs) and Correctional Institutions (AECIs) .
