The Standards of Effective Practice is Massachusetts' framework for effective teaching and leadership. Pursuant to 603 CMR 35.03 and grounded in DESE's Educational Vision, it reflects input from educators, students, and families across Massachusetts on evidence-based, culturally and linguistically sustaining practices that support all students to attain academic knowledge and skills, understand and value themselves and others, and engage with the world.
This framework guides the development of Massachusetts educators from preparation through employment, articulating the key knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential of all teachers and school leaders in public schools in Massachusetts to disrupt patterns of inequity and well serve richly diverse student bodies with varied educational needs.
