Provider Resources, Inc. Closing

To:CACFP Family Day Care Home Providers
From:Robert M. Leshin, Director, Office for Food and Nutrition Programs
Date:September 23, 2024

A large sponsor of family day care homes. Provider Resources, Inc. (PRI), has chosen to end their participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) effective November 30, 2024. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's (MA DESE) Office for Food and Nutrition Programs (FNP) understands the challenges this poses to providers who operate under their sponsorship. FNP is working closely with the other family day care home sponsoring organizations to ensure that all providers who wish to participate in the CACFP are able to do so. The FAQ below is intended to provide helpful information to providers who wish to continue in the CACFP and receive reimbursement for nutritious meals and snacks served to children in their care.

What does this mean for providers operating the CACFP under Provider Resources, Inc. (PRI)?

Providers will need to find a new sponsoring organization for their CACFP operations no later than December 1, 2024.

You may continue to submit claims for reimbursement to PRI for the months of September, October, and November, if you are unable to find a new sponsor. Sponsor capacity is continuing to expand to accommodate all providers as they work diligently to increase their staffing levels to meet your needs. It is expected all PRI homes are actively seeking a new sponsorship prior to 11/30 to avoid disruption of payment later.

Who are the other sponsoring organizations?

Approved sponsoring organizations of family day care homes are listed on FNP's website. Please note, the remaining sponsoring organizations are fielding a high volume of calls from providers. Leave your information with the agency and please be patient while they get back to you as soon as they are able.

What if a sponsor says there is a wait list for my area?

If a sponsor is not able to immediately onboard you at that time, they may put you on a wait list. As they work to expand their capacity, they will pull providers off the wait list and get them signed up. You are encouraged to contact other sponsors to see if they have the availability to take you on now.

If you are on a wait list and are able to be sponsored by another agency, please let the wait list sponsor know so they can remove you from their list and can accommodate another provider.

What happens if I am unable to find a new sponsor?

You can continue to claim under PRI for September, October, and November 2024.

FNP is working closely with our sponsoring organizations to identify which providers have signed up under a new sponsor, and which providers are still searching for a new sponsor. FNP will be in touch with unsponsored providers as we approach November 30th to identify available options and next steps.

What should I tell families during this process?

If you have not yet joined another sponsor, you can inform families that you are in the process of locating and joining another sponsor to avoid an interruption in providing free meals and snacks. If families have concerns about the cost of food or looking for food assistance, please refer them to Project Bread's Food Source Hotline where trained counselors will provide confidential support free of charge and in 180 languages.

Who do I talk to if I have questions about this situation?

All questions should be sent to your sponsoring organization.
