FY2020: Safe and Supportive Schools Continuation Grant

Fund Code: 337

Purpose:

The goal of this state funded continuation grant program is to help support implementation of school-wide action plans created the prior year through efforts associated with safe and supportive schools grants. These grantee districts (and their selected schools) have worked towards organizing, integrating, and sustaining school and district-wide efforts to create safe and supportive school environments. As part of this work, they created action plans in FY19 (2018-2019) based on their insights gained from completing the Safe and Supportive Schools (SaSS) Self-Assessment Tool (Tool). [The SaSS Tool was formally called the Behavioral Health and Public Schools (BHPS) Framework and Tool and was created by the BHPS Taskforce and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department), pursuant to Section 19 of Chapter 321 of the Acts of 2008.] Schools supported through these continuation grants shall also incorporate these action plans into their school improvement plans developed under MGL, c. 69, s. 1I.

Priorities:

The main priorities for this grant are to ensure that each school creates a safe, positive, healthy, culturally responsive, and inclusive whole-school learning environment, and makes effective use of a system for integrating services and aligning initiatives that promote students' behavioral health. These efforts are supported through school based implementation of action plans that were created after completing the Tool.

Applicants may submit an updated action plan with this application, otherwise the plan previously submitted (during school year 2018-2019 (FY19) to the Department will be reviewed.
