Welcome to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Office for Food and Nutrition Programs (FNP). We are pleased to work closely with school districts, childcare centers, family day care homes, adult day health programs, Summer Eats community organizations, USDA Foods storage and distribution vendors, food banks, and anti-hunger organizations across the Commonwealth to administer eight Federal Child Nutrition Programs and four Food Distribution Programs federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service. We are proud to support our local partners in providing healthy meals and snacks to children, teens and adults across Massachusetts.
At the signing of the fiscal year 2024 budget, Massachusetts became the eighth state to make universal free school meals permanent. Universal Free School Meals: FY24 Legislative Report provides an update on the implementation of the first year of permanent universal free school meals in terms of student participation, distribution of funding and recommendations for future implementation.
