Final FY17 Charter School Tuition and Enrollment

During school year 2016-2017 Massachusetts' 69 Commonwealth charter schools served a total of 39,670 pupils. Below you will find links to final FY17 charter school tuition and reimbursement data. These amounts will be used by the Department of Revenue for the purpose of certifying the June 30, 2017 local aid distribution.

Tuition, FTE and Rate Summaries

The data provided below reflect final full-time equivalent enrollment across the entire school year as reported by each charter school this spring.

  • FY17 Charter FTE and Tuition is an MS Excel spreadsheet of the number of pupils at each charter school and the total dollars to be paid.

  • FY17 Charter Tuition Payments and Reimbursements for sending districts is an MS Excel spreadsheet of each district's total enrollment at all charter schools; the local tuition assessed (including facilities); and the Commonwealth's reimbursement to districts for facilities tuition and increases in tuition.

  • FY17 Rates by Charter School and Sending District is a comprehensive and sortable list of the individual district tuition rates for each charter school.

  • FY17 Charter School Pupil Rosters: A pupil roster for each charter school and sending district will be available for download by June 24, 2017. The download file is hosted in the Charter School Claim Form Drop Box at DESE Security Portal.

Rate Component Detail

The charter school tuition rate has three components. The facilities component is set by the legislature at $893 per pupil. The detail for the other two components is provided below.

  • FY17 EcoDis Foundation Budget is an MS Excel spreadsheet containing the Foundation Budgets of all applicable charter school sending districts and uses the EcoDis low income measure. A drop down menu allows the user to select the school, campus, and district.

  • FY17 Hold Harmless Foundation Budget is an MS Excel spreadsheet containing Foundation Budgets using low income percentages from FY16. A drop down menu allows the user to select the school, campus, and district.

  • FY17 Net School Spending Percentage Above Foundation Budget is an MS Excel spreadsheet that provides the calculation used to determine the percentage of net school spending above foundation budget. Deductions for retired teacher's health insurance and out-of-district special education costs are shown in detail.
