Differentiation within the Classroom

Topics: Instructional Practices
Mission:
Goals: 1. To study research about differentiation and for each participant to contribute an example of differentiation of instruction in their classroom to a handbook on differentiation of instruction in the classroom.
Summary: Differentiation in the Classroom. School leaders at Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School have identified the differentiation of instruction within the classroom to be a best practice of the school. The project is a collaborative effort between the nine teachers from Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School and the five teachers at Chilmark Elementary School. Five Saturday workshops were held at the charter school where designing and sharing differentiation strategies and best practices took place. School leaders at Martha’s Vineyard Charter School made a proposal to the teachers asking for their input, support and voluntary participation. The proposal was brought to the Chilmark Elementary Principal and the school was invited to collaborate with the charter school on this project. The schedule of workshops and workshop content were agreed upon, and the two schools moved forward with the dissemination activities. This activity was supported with federal dissemination funds.
