Learning Standards

The state works closely with educators to establish learning standards and curriculum frameworks that clearly demonstrate what our students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

Massachusetts sets high expectations for all students regardless of the school district they live in and local educators use learning standards and state assessments to inform their instruction to support the individual learning styles of each student.

Learning standards are not classroom curriculum. Curriculum lesson plans, books, materials, and other resources are all selected locally by the school district or by individual teachers.

In Massachusetts, we challenge our students in the classroom regardless of who they are or where they live. Learn how educators use statewide learning standards to improve their teaching and your child's learning.
