FY2024: MyCAP Development & Implementation

Purpose:

The purpose of this targeted grant opportunity is to provide supplementary support to school districts currently engaged in the implementation of MyCAP or interested in starting the planning of My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP). MyCAP is a student-driven process designed to ensure all students graduate from high school college and career ready. The MyCAP process requires schools to create a scope and sequence to guide the implementation MyCAP. This grant will provide planning team members the supplementary support necessary to attend professional development, team meetings outside-of- school hours, or purchase materials for the MyCAP process.

Priorities:

This grant is intended to provide high school leadership teams working on the school-wide implementation of MyCAP with funding to: (a) convene the team outside of school hours for the creation of a four-year scope and sequence and/or pay for substitutes while team members attend in-person trainings; (b) design/begin the implementation plan for the rollout of MyCAP; (c) identify a metric(s) for assessment of student success.

Grant applicants must identify a team that at a minimum includes four members representing a cross-section of professional roles i.e., administrator, school counselor, teacher. special education or English Learner teacher, and also including student representation. The team will create a scope and sequence that will address the three domains of college and career readiness in each year middle and/or high school as well as identify learning objectives, lessons, activities and resources available to meet those objectives, and the artifacts that will be captured in the individual student MyCAP. The focus of the work should be on creating a scope and sequence that will empower and engage students in planning for postsecondary success based on their individual interests, strengths, passions.

Priority will be given to districts and schools in chronically underperforming status.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants are any Massachusetts school district or charter school with grades 6–12 that completed the publicly announced intent form for FY24 MyCAP Participation.

Funding:

An approximate total amount of $968,000 is available to eligible applicants. Priority will be given to districts and schools in chronically underperforming status.

This RFP is the governing document for these grant funds.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding becomes available for allocations, it will be distributed under the same guidelines that appear in this RFP document.

Fund Use:

Funds may be used for costs associated with out-of-school time training and meeting time for team members to create the scope and sequence and implementation plan. Allowable uses include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Stipends
  • Consultant fees
  • Supplies and materials associated with planning
  • Other costs related to creative and effective development of a scope and sequence.

Additional Notes:

  • Grant funds may not be used for the purchase of technology — hardware or software or licenses for online learning;
  • Funds may not be used to purchase snacks or food for staff or students

*The grant start date cannot be prior to DESE receiving a substantially approvable application submission as directed in this RFPs Submission Instructions. Funds cannot exceed the project duration end date.

Submission Instructions:

This grant will be completed and submitted in our new Grants for Education Management System (GEM$). GEM$ is a cloud-based fiscal and program management grant system that will eventually phase out the use of EdGrants.
