The purpose of the Early Grades Literacy Grant, FC734b, Implementation and Sustainability: Evidence-Based Early Literacy, is to increase teacher knowledge to fully implement and sustain evidence-based, inclusive, culturally responsive practices in early literacy through professional learning on evidence-based, inclusive, culturally responsive early literacy through literacy experts, the Mass Literacy Guide, and Culturally & Linguistically Sustaining Practices.
Schools that participated during the past two years, will choose either Pathway 1 for 320 hours or Pathway 2 for 200 hours of school-based support with an expert early literacy consultant. The school-based literacy consultant will work with all grades K–3 teachers to fully implement and sustain evidence-based early literacy instruction and assessment.
Applicants agree to the following:
Districts working intensively to fully implement and sustain evidence-based instruction to improve student reading in grades K–3 and participated in the FY22 DESE provided evidence-based early literacy series of professional learning from experts in early literacy may apply for this grant opportunity.
Note: Schools that did not participate in the Early Grades Literacy series may apply for FY23 FC 734a.
State
Approximately $387,000 is projected to be available and will be distributed on the number of quality proposals submitted.
Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding becomes available, it will be distributed under the same guidelines that appear in this RFP document.
Funds may be used to fund a school-based literacy consultant.
Note: Upon acceptance of the proposal an additional $3,000 will be added to the budget for meetings beyond the school-based scope of work.

Schools applying for funding must submit a grant application that includes all of the following required forms:

Part IV: School District Assurance Page
Submit all required grant materials through EdGrants, using the following naming convention for your Healthy Schools Program Application:

All items listed under the required forms section of this RFP should be uploaded / attached in the Attachments List formlet of the Application Submission in EdGrants. This includes a signed / scanned PDF of Part I / Cover Sheet with Superintendent's signature as well as Schedule A form, if applicable to your district. The final budget the applicant is requesting will be entered directly into EdGrants as part of the application submission process.
