FY2022: High School Senior Internship in Education Project (HSSIEP)

Purpose:

The purpose of this federally funded Targeted grant is to support high school educator interns to gain valuable experience, compensation, and professional development in the education field while accelerating academic outcomes for K-8 students across the Commonwealth.

Priorities:

The priorities for the grant include but are not limited to:

  • Working directly with districts to identify and support a district lead responsible for student intern recruitment, student internship placement, the monitoring of student progress throughout the internship, and professional development delivery to students.
  • Owning the fiscal responsibility of ensuring that students earn a stipend or wages for their participation as a student intern.
  • Addressing the diversity gap in education by preparing a future of diverse educators to be successful in the education field.
  • Providing status updates via quarterly reports regarding data related to student interns and their placements.
Eligibility:

Eligible applicants must be designated as a Connecting Activities leader at a MassHire Workforce Board and have experience in supporting the development of clear pathways to increasing teacher diversity and quality.

Funding:

Grant awards for programming will be determined by the number of students projected to participate in HSSIEP.

Funding is contingent upon availability. All dollar amounts listed are estimated/approximate and are subject to change. If more funding becomes available, it will be distributed under the same guidelines that appear in this RFP document.

Submission Instructions:

Submit all required grant materials through EdGrants.

In EdGrants, districts are required to create and name the project. Please use the following naming convention for your "Applicant Project Name" in EdGrants:

  • FY22 (INSERT FUND CODE NUMBER) Applicant Name

All items listed under the required forms section of this RFP should be uploaded / attached in the Attachments List formlet of the Application Submission in EdGrants. This includes a signed / scanned PDF of Part I / Coversheet with Superintendent/Executive Director signature as well as Schedule A form, if applicable to your district. The final budget the applicant is requesting will be entered directly into EdGrants as part of the application submission process.

Please note: It is up to the district to determine who they want to add as EdGrants Front Office users in order to submit grant application as well as payment request information.
