The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (Board) is working to recruit the next Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Through this process, we are seeking a Commissioner who will champion DESE's educational vision, working with districts, schools, and educators to promote teaching and learning that is antiracist, inclusive, multilingual, and multicultural; that values and affirms each and every student and their families; and that creates equitable opportunities and experiences for all students, particularly those who have been historically underserved.
The Board has retained Isaacson, Miller to help conduct the search and soon the Board will be convening a preliminary screening committee including Chair Katherine Craven, Member Education Secretary Dr. Patrick Tutwiler, Member Dr. Ericka Fisher and Member Dr. Martin West, as well as 20+ non-voting members comprised of a broad set of internal and external stakeholders to inform and support this effort.
The Isaacson, Miller team, on behalf of the Board, is currently working to develop the Commissioner job description and is seeking feedback from the education community and larger public.
