During the 2020-2021 school year Massachusetts' 72 Commonwealth charter schools served a total of 46,752 pupils. Below you will find links to final FY21 charter school tuition and reimbursement data. These amounts will be used by the Department of Revenue to certify the final distribution of the fiscal year on June 30, 2021.
The data provided below reflect final, full-time equivalent enrollment across the entire school year, as reported by each charter school this spring.
FY21 Charter FTE and Tuition for charter schools is an MS Excel spreadsheet of the number of pupils at each charter school and the total dollars to be paid.
FY21 Charter Tuition Payments and Reimbursements for sending districts is an MS Excel spreadsheet of each district's total enrollment at all charter schools; the local tuition assessed (including facilities); and the Commonwealth's reimbursement to districts for facilities tuition and increases in tuition.
FY21 Rates By Charter School and Sending District is a comprehensive and sortable list of FTE, capping, and rates for each charter school by sending district.
FY21 Charter School Pupil Rosters for each charter school and sending district will be available to download from the Charter School Claim Form Drop Box at DESE Security Portal by the end of June.
The charter school tuition rate has three components. The facilities component is set by the legislature at $938 per pupil. The detail for the other two components is provided below.
Foundation Budget is an MS Excel spreadsheet containing the statutory Foundation Budgets of all applicable charter school sending districts. A drop-down menu allows the user to select the school, campus, and district.
FY21 Net School Spending Percentage Above Foundation Budget is an MS Excel spreadsheet that provides the calculation used to determine the percentage of net school spending above foundation budget. Deductions for retired teacher's health insurance and out-of-district special education costs are shown in detail.
