1:30 pm – 3:00 pm EDT
The Alliance for Excellent Education is joining with the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD)and National Council of La Raza (NCLR)to host the release of NCLD's new report Personalized Learning: Meeting the Needs of Students with Disabilities and discuss findings from NCLD's and NCLR's recent research on personalized learning. NCLD's new report, which will be released at this event, is based on a year-long process through which NCLD and NCLR engaged with leading education and disability experts and advisors—including educators, school administrators, researchers, and advocates—to explore best practices for including students with disabilities and English learners in personalized learning. Following months of investigation with experts from around the nation representing multiple disciplines—education reform and personalized learning, general and special education, the advocacy and research communities, and more—and a convening in Washington, DC, NCLD published a report containing ten policy and practice recommendations for implementing personalized learning as it relates to students with disabilities. In addition to the report, NCLD is releasing complementary materials to assist parents, educators, school and district leaders, and states as they strive to make personalized learning work for all students, including students with disabilities. The event will feature Lindsay Jones, NCLD's vice president and chief policy and advocacy officer and Maria Moser, NCLR's senior director of teaching and learning as they discuss the implications of personalized learning for students with disabilities and English learners. Elizabeth Schneider of the Alliance for Excellent Education will share findings of their research and message testing on definitions of personalized learning. In addition, a panel of experts and practitioners will reflect on the work accomplished over the past year and what these resources and advancements mean for students with disabilities across the country and the districts that serve them.
