  • Evaluating and Planning for the DLAC charge SY26 and SY27 (finalized February 29, 2026)
    • The Digital Learning Advisory Council, as established under the 2013 virtual schools legislation (Chapter 379 of the Acts of 2012, An Act Establishing Commonwealth Virtual Schools), shall advise the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Board, and the Commissioner on digital learning and virtual education. This includes the development of policies and identification of best practices related to virtual schools, supplemental online courses, education technology, and other digital instructional strategies, including innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, in alignment with the Commissioner's priorities of Power of Presence, Literacy Launch, Accelerating Achievement, and Future Focused Learning.
    • The Council shall advise DESE on how digital and virtual learning models can support schools in meeting MassCore and state graduation requirements; expand equitable access to advanced coursework; increase student choice and agency; and broaden student exposure to career pathways and postsecondary education opportunities across Massachusetts, while promoting deeper learning experience that are real-world, relevant and responsive to diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English language learners.
    • In carrying out this charge, the DLAC's work shall advance DESE's strategic objectives by cultivating systems that support the whole student and foster joyful, healthy, and inclusive learning environments; reimaging high school experience to strengthen college and career pathways, and supporting the development and effective use of a diverse, well-prepared educator workforce through high-quality digital and virtual learning models.
