Level 3 School Turnaround Grant

Purpose: | The purpose of this grant program is to provide funding for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to implement Turnaround Plans in their lowest performing Level 3 schools. |
Eligibility: | This competitive grant opportunity is open to selected LEAs on behalf of selected lowest performing (1st through 5th percentile) Level 3 schools. A complete list of eligible schools is located under Additional Information below. Funding is contingent upon Department receipt of federal Title 1 funds. The Department expects to award funding to districts on behalf of approximately 6 to 10 schools. |

Funding: | Approximately $6.5 million in funding is available through Massachusetts federal Title 1 funds, for expenditure in FY2018 to FY2019 (through June 30, 2019). The average annual award will be approximately $300,000 to 500,000 per school. Award amounts will also depend on the size of the school and the scope and scale of activities proposed for the selected intervention. A detailed FY2018 budget will be required, with non-binding estimates for FY2019. FY2019 funding is contingent upon a successful grant application renewal process to be held in spring 2018. |
Fund Use: | Fund use must be consistent with applicable state and federal requirements. All expenditures must closely align with the implementation of the Turnaround Plan. LEA-Level expenditures must directly support the implementation of the turnaround plan at the identified schools. Unallowable expenditures:

Other Key Information: | The Department will conduct required interviews of LEA/school level teams applying for this grant as part of the grant review process. Interviews will be scheduled approximately May 15-19, 2017. LEAs must ensure that appropriate representatives are available during these days. |
