[L.11-12.6] - Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases; independently research words and gather vocabulary knowledge.   • Academic language/vocabulary
    Language of school and study, required for success in academic work; words and phrases used across subject areas (e.g., judge, evaluate, refer, composition, decision) as opposed to domain-specific (discipline-specific) language/vocabulary (e.g., drama in literature, integer in mathematics, photosynthesis in biology, millennium in history).
  • Domain-specific (discipline specific) language/vocabulary
    Words and phrases specific to a particular field of study: for example, drama in literature, integer in mathematics, photosynthesis in biology, millennium in history. See Academic language/vocabulary.
  • Research
    Systematic inquiry into a subject or problem in order to discover, verify, or revise relevant facts or principles.
  • Vocabulary
    Words known or used by a person or group, representing concepts or ideas and meanings mutually understood; also, all the words of a language. See Academic language/vocabulary, Domain-specific language/vocabulary.
