DESE provided this FAQ document related to the Competency Determination (CD) on December 11, 2024. As stated in the answer to question 13 of the FAQ, "DESE will adjudicate all performance appeals (cohort, portfolio, and transcript) received by the effective date of the new law. Successful appeals submitted prior to the effective date of the new law may count towards awarding the student the CD."
After the effective date of the new law, the MCAS Performance Appeals component of the DESE Security Portal will no longer be available for submission of new appeals, but schools will still be able to access it to view results of prior appeals using the "Reports" tool in the application. Refer to the guidance in the FAQ linked above for implementation of the CD after the effective date.
