The essay somewhat develops the central idea that Jean-François was a "seeker of knowledge." Supporting evidence from the article is included to show the enthusiasm and determination that made Jean-François want to be the first person to discover the key to solving the mystery of Egyptian writing. However, the explanations of the evidence are limited. There is a basic expression of ideas and partial awareness for the purpose of writing demonstrated in the essay.

The essay has few errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics, showing mostly consistent control of conventions. The quoted evidence takes up much of each paragraph, and the sentence structure is simple and not varied. Given its length, the essay demonstrates a mostly consistent control of Standard English conventions for this grade level.
