Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Intervention Program (TDVPIP)

Purpose:The purpose of this grant is to provide a program in public schools in grades 5 to 12 that promotes healthy relationships and addresses teen dating violence in 10 schools, one of which must be a school located in a municipality with a population of 25,000 or less.

Priorities: Priority will be given to proposals that:
  • develop educational programs and strategies to prevent teens from becoming involved with dating-related violence and offer safe intervention strategies and skills;

  • design referral systems for students to mental health, legal, or other support services;

  • use the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's (ESE) Guidance for Schools and Districts on Addressing Teen Dating Violence (2013) Download Word Document to develop school- or district-wide policies and procedures for addressing incidents of teen dating violence and restraining orders involving students;

  • implement school-based victim support groups under the supervision of a battered women's service provider or rape crisis center;

  • support the institutionalization of the Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Intervention program (TDVPIP) by integrating it into the district's safe and supportive schools programs and initiatives;

  • create and sustain collaborative relationships between schools, local battered women's programs and/or rape crisis programs, and Department of Health (DPH)-certified batterer intervention programs that provide teen dating violence preventive education, support, and intervention services with the goal of establishing school-based victim support groups and intervention groups establish and enhance collaborations between schools and community based organization programs and services that provide teen dating violence prevention education, support, and intervention services; and

  • strengthen and maintain referral systems for students to mental health, legal, or other support services.

Eligibility:This is a continuation grant. Only districts that received funding in fiscal year 2015-2016 (FY16) are eligible to apply.

Funding:The initial FY16 application outlined two years of continued funding; however, funds were not available in FY17. Available funds will be distributed amongst all districts that apply; each applicant should submit an original budget for $5,000.
Fund Use:These funds may be used to cover the cost of staff training, hiring of local experts, stipends for team members and group facilitators, and program supplies
