Domain - Building Functions
Cluster - Build new functions from existing functions.
[MIII.F-BF.B.4.a] - Solve an equation of the form f(x) = c for a simple function f that has an inverse and write an expression for the inverse. For example, f(x) =2x3 or f(x) = (x + 1)/(x - 1) for x ≠ 1.
- Expression
A mathematical phrase that combines operations, numbers, and/or variables (e.g., 32 ÷ a). - Function
A mathematical relation for which each element of the domain corresponds to exactly one element of the range. - Inverse function
A function obtained by expressing the dependent variable of one function as the independent variable of another; that is the inverse of y = f(x) is x = f –1(y).
[PC.F-BF.B.4.b] -
(+) Verify by composition that one function is the inverse of another.
