In the context of learning standards, without help from a teacher, other adult, or peer; in this document, often paired with proficient(ly) to describe a successful student performance without scaffolding. - Phrase
Broadly, any short series of related words; grammatically, a series of related words that lacks either a subject or a predicate or both: for example, by the door or opening the box. See Clause. - Research
