The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
Report from the Advisory Council on School and District Accountability and Assistance
To:
Members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
From:
Mitchell D. Chester, Ed.D., Commissioner
Date:
May 13, 2011
The 2008 state law that restored responsibility for district accountability reviews to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education created a fifteen-member Advisory Council on Accountability and Assistance. The statute further requires the advisory council to report periodically to the Board on its activities and perceptions about the Department's accountability and assistance work with schools and districts. The Board last received a written report from the advisory council in June 2010.
Enclosed is the advisory council's most recent report. The chair of the Advisory Council on Accountability and Assistance, Joseph Esposito, is available to respond to any questions Board members may have.
