Indicator 14: Post-School Outcomes Data Collection Final Month Reminder

Dear Administrators of Special Education and Indicator 14 Leads:

As a reminder, the data collection period for Indicator 14: Post-School Outcomes will end on Friday, September 20, 2024. Over the next four weeks, you will receive reminders from our team with weekly updated response counts. Please continue your outreach to ensure the highest possible response rate.

As new school year activities ramp up, it is important that you continue to contact your exiters! A file with a list of exiters from the 2022-2023 school year can be found in the Indicator 14 folder in Dropbox Central. To ensure the highest possible response rate, please make at least three attempts to contact your former students. To increase the likelihood of response, we suggest that you vary the means of contact and the time of day of your outreach.

We suggest you use one or more of these methods:

  • Email: Send the exiter an email explaining why you are reaching out and giving them the option to (a) contact you so that you can complete the online survey together or (b) use the online link to complete the survey themselves. The resources and tools section of our Indicator 14 web page includes a step by step instruction document.

  • Telephone: Complete the online survey on behalf of the exiter while you have them on the phone. For additional guidance, see the sample telephone script on our Indicator 14 page.

  • U.S. Mail: Send the exiter a letter explaining why you are reaching out and giving them the option to (a) contact you so that you can complete the online survey together, (b) use the online survey link to complete the survey themselves, or (c) complete a paper copy of the survey and mail it back to you. An outreach letter is available in English and five additional languages on our Indicator 14 page.

  • Social Media: Announce on your school's or district's official social media account(s) that you are conducting the survey and ask exiters to call or visit you so that you can complete the online survey together. (Do not post the online link to the survey on social media, because you don't want anyone but 2022-2023 exiters with IEPs to complete it.)

  • In Person: Complete the online or paper survey with the exiter (entering any data from the paper version later). A printable version of the survey is available on our Indicator 14 page. If you are unable to reach a former student, it is acceptable to obtain the information from the parent or guardian if you are confident it is accurate.

For questions or concerns:

  1. If you have questions about the online survey, e.g., how to access it or whether your district's exiters have completed the survey yet, please contact PIAR representative Patrick Cerio at piarmass14@potsdam.edu , 888-419-2697, or 315-267-2718.

  2. For all other Indicator 14 questions, please contact Kristin Castner, kristin.castner@mass.gov

Thank you for your assistance with Indicator 14 data collection and for the work you do on behalf of children and youth with disabilities in the Commonwealth!

Best regards,
The Indicator 14 Data Collection Team
